Wayuu Mochilla Bag Handmade Colombia Guajira / Beach bag / tote bag.
This shoulder bag was handmade by a group of indigenous women from the Wayuu Tribe that I met in Colombia, in the Guajira desert. The Mochillas bags are traditionally handcrafted by a community on the Caribbean coast. I work with these true artisans to recreates bags with intricate patterns and crocheted by hands that represent their culture and origin. Wayuu women learn how to weave at a very early age. The Wayuu are descendants of the Caribs and Arawak peoples, largely known for their strong weaving tradition. The Wayuu carry on this traditional weaving.
Today, the skill of crocheting has become the main source of income for the Wayuu community hot, which some says that the way they crochet was inspired by a spider.
