Set of 2 circular nesting boxes from Northern Thailand. Dating from the 1980s, the beautiful boxes are handmade from hot papièr machè and then lacquered with a high gloss black coating. Each lid is decorated with a gold musician or apsara. Believed to be from heaven, she plays the flute and symbolises pleasure and enchantment.
The bottom half of the larger box has a stylised gold border around the upper edge, while the smaller box's lower half has a simple gold line. The little one fits snugly into the larger box.
The perfect item for a dressing table to hold small jewellery like rings, earrings, neck chains, tie pins, cuff links etc. Delight someone on a Golden Anniversary (50th year) with this unusual gift.
Both boxes are in excellent condition and have never been used. Clean with a soft cloth – no abrasives.
