Tobias Purdy Whitcolm sailed for many years with the Dutch East India Company. As a merchant seaman it was a rare occasion when he was in the presence of a true lady, let alone one of such loveliness, and distress as that of Mrs. Sarah Davenport. Sarah's husband, a Merchant had sailed to the America's ahead of his expectant wife, in the spring of 1839. Believing she could make the trip before the baby came Sarah was awaiting her passage on the docks when a riot broke out and she was forced unconscious in to the hold of Tobias's ship.
Through several misfortunes for all, Tobias found himself in care of a beautiful auburn headed baby girl. Unable to locate any of the babies kin he named " His Little Gem" after the many beautiful jewels and gemstones he had seen on his voyages. Several years later, just before Amber, ( Topaz Davenport Whitcolm), was to be married she was contacted by distant relatives in Iowa, and after she was newlywed she and her new husband Nathan Kessinger reunited with many family members in England.

This oval locket case was made from recycled hand/baby wipe soft pack lids. Embossed and decoupaged with vintage magazine clips, paper blossoms, scrapbooking papers and stickers, adorned with coral colored silk ruffled ribbons, gold thread, large amber colored teardrop shaped faux topaz jewel, held on a 29" decorative gold metal chain. The inside booklets are made with hand dyed coffee and lace papers. The miniature writing pen is covered with specialty papers, and adorned with 3 D butterfly charm and hung on a flexible cord that can be removed.
The entire locket has been hand painted with gold and brown accents.

Although this lovely seems like a fairy tale it is not meant for children not to be considered a toy or child safe!
