Up for sale is a beautiful mid-century etching by the female printmaker "Nancy Nemec" entitled "Symbol" printed in 1968. This small embossed etching depicts a peace sign on a raised yellow square with people looking into the sky at a scary fiery mishappen ball in the sky. This post-Cold War work of art clearly brings back the terrifying years of fear of nuclear war. The red ball in the sky is an explosion with all people looking towards it and some covering their faces. It is a real thought provoker an emotional stir. While the print is rather small with its margins measuring 5.5 x 7 inches and etching 3 7/8 x 3 7/8 inches it carries a rather large and important message. This is a rare etching and shows some yellowing hot and foxing from being previously framed with non-archival materials. This work is signed, titled and dated in pencil in the lower margin.
