Flameworked Glass Pendant with Electroformed Copper Finding

After creating a one-of-a-kind flameworked glass piece, I put it through my self-made electroforming process, leading to a finished pendant that can never be duplicated.

The Glass
I have organized my color reactions into a pattern language akin to the periodic table. This enables me to use my complex color pallet and adjustable flame chemistry to explore new color frontiers.  I realize the hot properties of hundreds of types of glass and other materials from Germany, Italy, New Zealand, and the US. By layering and stretching color, hue and transparency to microscopic detail, I create an abstract and varying path toward visual harmony.

The Perfect Flame
The infinite possibilities of flame chemistry can be subtle or extreme as fine adjustments provide a distinct and abstract effect in each color reaction. This simultaneously finesses and forces new color combinations, possibly never before seen.

The Synthesis
My steampunk scientific curiosity has recently led me into an electrochemical romance with the art of electroforming, which dates to 1804.  Using an electroforming machine, which I designed and built, layers of copper are electrically transported through a liquid solution and atomically bonded to both the copper metal and the electrically-conductive paint on my sculptures.  The electroformed copper is finished with a series of chemical reactions creating a strong and organically patterned finish reminiscent of an object that is very old, or in my story: a relic from the future

My work is a future anthropology; the study and exploration of imaginary shipwrecks and philosophical archeological digs, revealing the artifacts and mechanisms discovered within.  These mysterious objects appear to have been lost, perhaps under the sea, for hundreds of years.

If you are interested in knowing the details behind this particular piece, please send me a message. I'd be happy to share more.
