One of the greatest gifts that was given to us can be remembered through a crucifix. This crucifix, handcrafted from walnut hardwood, should remind you everyday that Christ died for you, and you are worthy of His love.

Starting from a rough sawn piece of walnut, I mill the wood and cut the joinery to make the cross. When all of the meticulous work has been done to it and the finish has been applied, I inlay two Benedictine medals in the front and back of it with careful measurements so they align precisely. The cross becomes a crucifix when the corpus is attached.

Saint Benedict once said something that resonates with me, as I sometimes find myself closest to God while using my hands to craft these crosses and crucifixes. He said, “Idleness is the enemy of the soul; and therefore the brethren ought to be employed in manual labor at certain times, at others, in devout reading.”
