This is an original linoleum cut titled 'Ice wedge'.

The world below supports the world above.
Black spruce trees are rooting in soils underlain by permafrost, including ice wedges. Melting ice wedges make the surface unstable and the trees lose their support and start leaning or falling.
Above and below ground are often intrinsically linked, change in one triggers change in the other.
