Antique EAPG Cambridge Glass Platter marked Near Cut in hot the Snowflake or Fernland Pattern #2635 circa 1906 Glass Plate
Antique EAPG Cambridge Glass Platter marked Near Cut in the Snowflake or Fernland Pattern #2635 circa 1906 Glass Plate
Cambridge Glass Company was located in Ohio and produced some of the country's most elegant glassware from 1901 through 1958. Prior to 1920 Cambridge Glass identified their pieces by stamping them with “Near Cut”, as is the case with this piece; after that time frame the pieces were only marked “C”.
This lovely platter is popularly known as either Snowflake (aka Fernland) and has an 11-1/4” diameter and stands 1-1/4” tall. Consisting of multiple hobstars, curves, arcs and fans, the entire design created the “snowflake” design. There is a round 3-1/4” depression in the center; which may denote that possibly a bowl could be added. It is in wonderful antique condition – there are no additional chips, nicks, fleabite, blemishes or hairline fractures.
The process of the time for making these pieces was to blow glass into a preformed mold ……so each piece can have unique characteristics; air bubbles, uneven seams, slight dimensional variations, embossing imperfections and some sharp seam edges. However, all these personality flaws just make 110 years of glass all the more wonderful!! Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG); hot produced between 1850 and 1917 - glows a wonderful, bright yellow-green color when exposed to black light, so you can be sure this is true to the era.
Whether for the new collector or the connoisseur, this beautiful platter will be a lovely addition to your EAPG or antique Cambridge Glass collection !!
