Vintage Japanese Tetsubin (ツビンティーポット) Teapot/ 1 Cup Small Cast Iron Red Asian Kettle hot with Trivet/ Old
Vintage Japanese Tetsubin Teapot: Made of cast iron and with its own built in strainer, this pot is what is known as Tetsubin (鉄瓶), and considered the best vessel for tea brewing. The cast iron distributes the heat evenly to extract the full flavor and health benefits of the tea leaves and in addition, it retains full heat for up to an hour. In Japan, these pots become family heirlooms handed down from generation to generation.
This teapot is made of solid cast iron and washed in a red glaze. It is embellished with a round shape which resembles an old Japanese coin. It is quite old and well used and the glaze shows some signs of its use and is at least second generation as of now.
It measures 6.5” in diameter and 2.5” in height (exclusive of handle) (17 x 7 cm) making it a one person pot. It is is very heavy (4.3 lbs), accounting for its high shipping costs. It is in very good vintage condition with no discernible flaws, cracks other than the mentioned glaze and holds 8-12 oz of tea.
