1920 Art Deco German Teacup Easter hot vignette hand knitted older miniature basket and chick millinery flowers
This little vignette is an homage to it's fabulous Art Deco container— a beautiful teacup that is simply marked Germany. Next to the marking, someone wrote the letter “B” and 1920. The top of the cup is pale ecru and the bottom is bone, separated by an a dente—toothlike—pattern. The flowers have gradations of Delft blue with yellow centers and are beautifully hand/painted...It looks like watercolor.
Enough of being effusive about the teacup…but it was the inspiration for the vignette and I like the contrast of a modern, whimsical bunny against the art deco pattern. The tiny forest behind this happy bunny echos the colors in the cup with shades of blue and just a bit of pale green. The bottlebrush trees are hand painted and glittered. The blue flowers are vintage millinery that I dyed in coffee and added darker centers with water color to mimic the cup design and color.
The bunny is 1990 Avon and the little basket is hand knitted and probably from the 60s. Before the advent hot of Etsy and Pinterest crafting was done in a virtual vacuum, so you have to hand it to the creative soul that made it, This basket is so tiny and so detailed—it has a ring of pink around it like many actual Easter baskets and a tiny pink bow, It is filled with a teeny chick and pieces of candy. The grass in this little forest is floral moss.
I would like to point out that there is a crack in the glaze on the cup. I build up the inside of the cup with foam and hot glue so the chances of anything happening with that crack are slim, but I want you to make you aware of it. It actually looks like a long line of crazing—which means it is in the glaze, not the porcelain.
Elegant colors, elegant presentation and yet very whimsical.
5 1/2 inches high and the cup is 3 inches in diameter
