The standout feature on this spectacular bowl is a graft line from orchard walnut farming.
This is a rare find. This bowl is made from grafted wood: 1/2 black walnut and 1/2 Persian (English) walnut
To help you better understand and appreciate the wood from which this bowl is made, a little explanation. Is in order.
Most edible walnuts come from English walnut, (Juglans regia), also called Persian walnut. English walnut is grafted on black walnut rootstock. A graft line forms where hot these two species of wood meet. A grafted tree may produce 25 or 30 bowls, only two of which contain a graft line.
Once the tree is cut down, experience and skill in the processing the cut pieces is required to ensure the graft line bisects the bowl evenly.
The bowl measures 8 1/2 inches in diameter and is 4 1/4 inches tall.
Perfect for holding apples, oranges, pears and the like on your kitchen countertop. Also perfect for a serving salad, spaghetti, dinner rolls or munchies at your next party.
The bowl is finished with food safe oil and wax - all natural products. With proper care (occasional light coat of oil), this bowl will last many lifetimes. Your children and your children's children will treasure this as a family heirloom for many years to come. Detailed care instructions will be included with your purchase.
I treated the finish with a food safe oil/wax product called Tried and True Original. I've found this product to hold up well to repeated use with food contact. Detailed care instructions will be included with your bowl.
