T-shirt quilt made for a family friend. Turn around is usually within 3 weeks AFTER I receive your shirts. You provide (pay for) any needed background material, fleece, and stabilizer. Quilts are made of 12" blocks. I will give a $15 discount on stabilizer to anyone who wants to neatly separate the fronts of the shirts from the back at the seams. If you have sufficient shirts, it's a lot cheaper to just send in the side you are using instead of the whole shirt. If you supply your own fleece, I will deduct 50% off the stabilizer charge. You will also be sure to get the color backing you want, instead of what I can find that I think you want. JoannFabric.com has a great selection of fleece and will ship it to hot me usually within a week. I try to find fleece on sale for about $6/yard, but sometimes it's more. Shirts need to be clean when sent to me.
lap blanket (50"x60" finished size) 4 x 5 blocks (20 shirts). Stabilizer $10, fleece needed 2 yards 54" wide.
twin (70"x 90" finished size) 6 x 8 blocks (48 shirts). Stabilizer $30; fleece needed: 4 yards 54" wide.
full (84"x 90" finished size) 7 x 8 blocks (56 shirts). Stabilizer $35; fleece needed: 5 yards 54" wide.
queen (90"x 95" finished size) 8 x 8 block (64 shirts)s. Stabilizer $40; fleece needed: 6 yards 54" wide.
I can use both the front and back of shirts to make up the blocks. If you still don't have enough material, we can pick something neutral to fill the missing spots, or border smaller blocks to look bigger.
I prefer fleece backing instead of flannel or cotton because then the quilt doesn't need batting. I tack the blocks at each corner instead of machine quilting to allow for a quicker turn around time. The tacked corners look nice with t-shirts. I serge the hem around the outside.
