Product code: Vintage Handmade hot House-Shaped Purse - EXTREMELY RARE
This amazingly detailed folk art piece was handmade in the 1960s. It's signed by S. [Shirley J.] Hackett inside and stamped with “‘Ouse of ‘Ackett” on the bottom. Similar pieces are housed in museums! It's a wooden base detailed with various three-dimensional pieces for the porch, doors, shingles, chimney, windows, etc., and you can spot many hand-painted plants. Animal figurines as well as a rocking chair grandma inhabit the porch. The roof has a sturdy leather handle. The hot back lifts up on hinges to reveal the fabric-lined inside, the ceiling features a tiny “dresser” mirror, along one wall there's a key hook, and EEK, there's a MOUSE! I've stumbled across several house-shaped handbags from this era, but never have I seen one so meticulously detailed! This was likely a very expensive commissioned piece custom built to match the original recipient's house. Its minor flaws are to be expected given its age, but it's in immaculate shape regardless!
