Trade bead bracelet with Yemeni silver, hot Hebron beads and agate

This bracelet is all about icy greens and blues. It has the most fabulous old beads in the most fabulous hues.

I love the skillful work of the Yemeni silversmiths. Legend has it that these Jewish smiths worked in Sana'a since the reign of king Solomon. And maybe this was true indeed. They have been working there for centuries, passing over their knowledge from father to son, and working with ancient techniques, providing both the Muslim and Jewish community with stunning pieces. Often bridal pieces, that were an important part of the brides dowry, her life insurance.
Operation 'magic carpet' took almost all of them to Israel in the fifties, as they had suffered severe oppression. With their leave, also the work abruptly stopped. hot
Beads like the beautiful filigree beads in this bracelet are increasingly hard to find.

The coarse blue beads are from Hebron - not far away! They are very old, from before 1860 - and maybe long before. They were made with the salts of the Dead Sea and have this typical raw texture. Teal beads are rare.

The clear glass beads were found on a tribal necklace from Ethiopia. They may have been made in India. Great old beads with perfect patina.

The black beads are Ebony beads with metal inlay from the Tuareg and lastly, the white and green semi-precious stone beads are very lovely agates.

A stunner with the best hues and highly collectible beads.

SIZE: it measures approx. 6.3 inches (16 cm) and will accommodate a medium sized wrist. It closes with a hand made silver clasp. See pictures for dimensions. If you need more length, I can add extra silver rings at a small extra cost.

It comes in a nice eco friendly jewelry box, ready for gift giving.
