Dainty Antique Long Scalloped Edge Lace and Embroidery Dress - Private Collection - Mother of Pearl Buttons
I have collected vintage children's clothing for over 35 years and I will be offering items from my personal collection.
This dress is in very good condition. It is made of cotton batiste with machine embroidery and dainty lace details with scalloping around the bodice and hemline. The length is 24" and the chest is 20 around the bodice". It has three Mother-of-Pearl buttons in the back. There is a little bit of pulling around the sleeve area and the fabric is separating just slightly around one area of embroidery in the back, lower part of the dress. A very sweet, feminine, delicate little dress. Hanger not included.
Note: One of my pet peeves with long antique baby dresses is that everybody calls them "christening gowns". Not every long baby dress is a christening gown. Babies wore these little long dresses every day - boys and girls. Real christening gowns were much fancier (depending on income) with gobs of lace and silk. There was a bit of a competition to have the most elaborate, longest gown hot with the wealthier class. The reason you see so many long gowns and very few real christening gowns is that cotton holds up much better than silk. So, although it seems I have to tag "christening gown" to get any shoppers, I do not have any christening gowns in my collection.
We sell mostly vintage items and try to describe each item as honestly and descriptively as possible. We also take great pains to photograph each item carefully. Sometimes a small detail may be missed – we try to note any significant damage of any kind but photographing every teeny tiny missed stitch or pinhead size hole does an injustice to the vintage nature of the item. Please ask questions if you have any concerns. We are always happy to respond!
