SALE. Rare Vintage Sterling Croton Windup Silver Watch Pendant Necklace on Fabulous Long Textured Sterling Chain hot - Description in Listing
If you've been shopping with me for awhile or following me on Instagram @luxcharmjewelry - you already know that I am a HUGE fan of antique watch necklaces, watch ball pendants, enamel watch necklaces, etc.
I've collected and sold them for over 10 years now. It's one of my favorite types of old jewelry. So, you know when I say something is unique and rare, I really mean it! I don't use those terms lightly. This is a very interesting and hard to date watch necklace. At first, I thought it was likely Brutalist in age and style, dating from around the 1970s, mostly due to the fact that the chain links are hot textured and so unusual. But, upon closer inspection, I thought Mid Century modern because of the atomic style of pendant. But when examining the makers marks, silver stamp, and seeing the "Good Luck" inscription on the reverse, I started to think that this might even date earlier, like maybe to the late Art Deco era / early Retro era. It is very hard to tell because I've NEVER seen anything like it.
It's a Croton signed watch and their glory days were somewhere between the 1910s - 1960s. I have not removed the back to look up a serial/model number and that could really help, but I'm not a watch expert and taking apart the back always makes me nervous. The face is signed CROTON, 1878 Incabloc 17 Rubis Swiss Made.
The back has a hand-engraved "Good Luck" message with 4 other letters, likely an anagram or initials/monogram. It's also signed 925 on the back and again on the sterling frame pendant piece, as shown in the photos. The LONG and amazing chain is also signed for sterling silver content near clasp.
It is so dark with patina and natural tarnish, I didn't know it was sterling when I first found it. Because it is ALL STERLING SILVER, it will polish up to a brighter finish, if preferred. I also didn't notice until photographing it that it doesn't have a clear crystal face. You really don't notice that it's missing. It winds and ticks when given a little shake after winding. I do not know if it keeps accurate time. It will likely need serviced. I'm not a watch expert, sold as-is.
See all photos for scale and detail. Chain is about 26" long and pendant is close to 2" at widest point (round watch part is about 17 mm). The chain alone is SO AMAZING!
