Product code: Red hot lion fish

The red lion fish is one of 8 members of the pterois genus native to the coral seas of the Indo-pacific. It's extravagant dorsal fin is equipped with grooved spines linked to venom glands, making it very dangerous, and it's dramatic appearance may act as warning to potential predators. The fish is mostly nocturnal, spending the day almost motionless in a cave or crevice with its head inclined downwards; it counters any threat by advancing with its dorsal spines facing forward. It emerges at night to hunt for smaller fish and shrimps, using its widespread pectoral fins to corner a victim and then striking hot very rapidly to seize it in its jaws.
