Antique hot Ceramic Match Holder Military Matchstrike Lovatt Langley Mill 2nd E Lancashire, Unique Toothpick Safe, Brown and Blue Decoration
Antique ceramic British military regimental matchstrike. Manufactured by the Lovatt Langley Mill pottery in Lancashire, England prior to 1881. In the late 1800's production of decorated stoneware vases, pots and other types of ceramic ware was popular for its functionality and pride of nationalism which was pinnacled around the Boer war to the WW1 period.
The rough dimpled surround is where the matches were struck against which contrasts beautifully against the smooth white background ceramic cartouche displaying the 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot which amalgamated with the 30th Cambridge Regiment of Foot in 1881 under the Childers Reforms.
