The Arabesque® Handcrafted Decorative Coffee Table or Ottoman Tray with Woodburned and Painted hot Medieval Ilkhanid Phoenix Pattern
This gorgeous tray with a medieval phoenix arabesque pattern was inspired by an Ilkhanid tile fragment which probably was one of the decorative elements lining the walls of the great Ilkhanid palace city, Takht-i-Sulayman (The Throne of Solomon). The Ilkhanids were descendants of the Mongols, who conquered parts of the Islamic world in the hot 13th century. Their presence opened up several new trade routes linking the Islamic world to Chinese art, culture, and objects. As a result, many Chinese forms of decorative iconography found its way to the Ilkhanid world, including mythical beasts like dragons, phoenixes, and other creatures. The Ilkhanid tile which inspired this tray is from that cultural tradition and artistic fusion.
We have added an additional dimension to this historical work of art. We mirrored the design of the phoenix tile and woodburned it onto this beautiful 9 x 13 inch tray. We finished it with a beautiful array of metallic sheen colors. To make things more interesting, we used vintage mid-century brass handles to add some more charm. It is one of our best productions to date. Do not miss out.
