This sterling silver pendant features a beautiful carved rose in a reddish-orange spiny oyster shell. Set in a silver bezel and surrounded by beaded silver accents. The bail on the pendant is made up of 3 spinning rings - great for fidgety fingers. The bail will fit small beaded necklaces or a chain. The silver on the back of the pendant is textured with flowers, vines, and paisleys. All metal is solid 925 sterling silver.
In ancient South American cultures, spiny oyster shells were more valuable than gold and silver. Only Shamans or elders were allowed to wear or use them.
Spiny oyster shells are found only in the Gulf of California. They are very difficult to harvest and polish which makes spiny oyster much sought after by collectors.
