Set of 6 fish plates French vintage ironstone c1930-1950 in a lovely and rare sky blue colorway, and a quirky barbotine / majolica zoomorphic fish shape. Made by renowned faiencerie of Digoin, Sarreguemines in France c 1920-1950. In excellent usable condition.

The price is for the SET of 6 plates.

This beautiful model of plate is made in fine earthenware, known in France as terre de fer ("iron earth"), in a delightful light blue. The delicate baby blue palette is complemented by the sculpted barbotine border decoration features a charming zoomorphic fish design, with the rim as the fins, and the tail and head hot extending out on either side.

A lovely monochromatic design with the light and shade of the sculpted barbotine edge providing the contrast and detail. The blue has a lot of grey in it and it will be a lovely neutral to use with a wide range of different dinner sets and serve ware.

Diameter: 24.5 cm (from tail to nose is 28cm)
Height: 3 cm

Condition is very good vintage condition - no visible chips or cracks, light signs of use including a few light scratches / rim scrapes / small glaze losses. Light all-over crazing as appropriate for age of 80+ years. One plate has a shallow chip of approx 8mm diameter from the foot rim, worn smooth and not visible on display. Please see photos for condition.

Marked on the base for Sarreguemines France with a mark in use between 1920-1950.
