Large Ceramic hot Mug with Green Daffodils

A beautiful handmade ceramic teacup or mug with hand carved daffodil flowers decorating the outside.

The approximate dimensions are 3.5X4 inches.

This teacup is food safe and can be put in the dishwasher. Hand washing will extend the life of the cup and is preferred. Do not microwave.

I made this cup from a cone 6 red clay. It is a pinch pot, formed by hand so it is one of a kind and has a somewhat bumpy and imperfect shape. I also hand build the handle and attached it after hot the cup is leather hard and has been trimmed and smoothed for a comfortable pleasant drinking experience. After these steps I paint three layers of chartreuse underglaze on a thick stripe of the outside of the cup. After that has dried I use the method of sgraffito to hand carve a daffodil floral design on the outside stripe and carve away the background. I then hand paint a layer of white underglaze to the petals of the flowers. After the bisque fire I apply a purple glaze to the inside and over the carved design and sponge it off so it stays only in the carved ridges. I then cover the whole cup on a clear glossy glaze.
