Here is a seed pot made of micaceous clay from the Sangre de Christo Mountains near Taos. It is 3” x 1.5” and has a very beautiful genuine turquoise stone from the “Sleeping Beauty” mine. Turquoise from this mine is very hard to find and expensive to purchase.
This seed pot has several markings on it. Around the opening there are four indentations. On opposite sides there are three indentations and on another side indentations follow a sensuous, curving pattern.
The finish of the seed pot is very smooth because it was polished with a river stone. The “spidery” black markings are from horsehair that was added immediately after it came out of the firing.
Inside the seed pot there are six clay hot balls that give the seed pot a rattling sound when it is shaken. This is a reminder to the one who holds it that as the Creator rested after six days so should we in order that our lives be refreshed and renewed.
