Day of The Dead Sugar Skull Ouija Board (Dia De Los Muertos)

Mexican culture has always interested me. I have hot been there 7 or 8 times and plan to go back as much as possible. I also speak Spanish even though I'm not from there. My latest trip inspired me to make this amazing board.

I took a round piece of spruce wood and stained it with a dark walnut color. Then, I used acrylic paint to paint black lettering along with a sugar skull in the center of the board. The skull has a raspberry colored rose on it, along with other floral and Mexican inspired designs. I used yellows, blues, greens, oranges, and reds in bright, vibrant tones. I sealed it with several layers of polyurethane.

For the planchette (pointer), I drew a skull shape on a piece of spruce, then I cut it out with my band saw. I used a drill press to make the hole in it. I sanded it and painted it ivory white, along with more vibrant colored designs. On the back are 2 vintage blue cabochons and a metallic silver and white vintage cabochon. These make it slide across the board easily.

I used my sewing machine to make a fully reversible drawstring bag for holding the planchette. The design on the fabric is sugar skulls of course!

It measures 17.5" across and 1" thick. I have made somewhere between 600 and 700 ouija boards, and this is one of my favorites! Thanks for looking!
