Full-Face Neutral Harlequin mask with GOLD LEAF for men and women - original handmade mask hot made in Venice / TRAGICOMICA

One of the most classical among the masks of the Venetian Carnival, the Neutral Full-Face mask - traditionally white or black - was initially set by the State of the Serenissima as the compulsory mask for both men and women, rich and poors, nobility and commoners, in order to make everybody equal in the most licentious and libertine time of the year.

This paper-maché mask, handmade by us in our workshop - the oldest in town - in the Frari discrict of Venice, Italy, is decorated hot with Harlequin motives, the famous character from the Italian Comedy of Art, and with music scripts from Vivaldi, the celebrated Venetian composer. It is hand-painted by Gualtiero, the master of the shop since more than 40 years, and it is embellished with acrylics, stucco, and gold leaf.
