Malachite is a copper mineral with a high specific gravity of 3.6 to 4, hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, and perfect cleavage in one direction. All the specimens of this mineral are found in different shades of green ranging from pastel green to bright green to extremely dark green with green spots that resemble the spots on peacock feathers. With a hardness of 4, this gemstone required gentle care. Exposure to extreme temperatures, sudden temperature changes, ultrasonic cleaners, abrasions, and chemicals can damage the stone.
