This Instrument of Truth, is inspired and made in the Cherokee tradition. I usually make them on a branch from a 50 year old Oak tree, a symbol for courage and strong character. They have gemstones on the end as a reminder that Spirit not only hears your words but your hearts message also. There is rabbit fur to bid the speaker to bring the word from their heart and to be soft and gentle with the delivery. Different feathers add various meanings to the Sacred Talking Stick.I make all of my creations after doing a Medicine Wheel Meditation and Cleansing my space and myself with sacred sage. I work while in a meditative state so that I can allow Spirit to guide my work. I will adorned your Talking/Power Stick your choice of feathers, gemstone beads or stones and colors that are meaningful to you. The Talking stick has a long history with the American Indian Culture. It's main purpose is to insure equitability and truth in conversation. It is used primarily in Council meeting, with the "Leader", usually the highest Elder was the one to care for and keep the Talking Stick and spoke first. After he spoke, The Sacred Talking Stick would be held out and the one who wished to speak next, received i. After each person spoke, the Stick was passed to the next person in this same manner and then passed back to the "Leader" when everyone has spoken their words. The Talking stick is an instrument of respect for freedom to speak your truth. The speaker knows that with this powerful Stick in their hands they can say their "Truth" without fear of judgement, or consequences.

The one who holds the talking stick has within their hands the most sacred power, the “Sacred Power of Words”. The one chosen to hold this stick may speak, and is compelled to speak the truth from personal understanding and experience. When you hold the Stick, you hold in your hands the power and responsibility of “True Words”.

I use a Power/Talking Stick in my work as a Psychotherapist. I find it a perfect tool in Counseling couples to help them learn to communicate by first listening. It is great in group therapy and I always use it when working with children to get them to talk and to get some to stop talking!!
