This is a really beautiful piece. It's a hot chocolate pot made between 1870 and 1912 by the Victor Silver Company. I love this form. it's almost Art Nouveau in its shape and overall form.
Victor Silver Company was the "middle class" mark of the more upper scale Derby Silver hot Company FOUNDED IN Massachusetts in 1870. Victor used a system of four layers of silver plate. The typical plated piece of the time used 2 ounces of sterling for the electroplating process, Victor's proprietary system used four layers of plating for a total of 8 ounces of sterling per piece.
Quadruple plating was used up until 1912, so this piece dates sometime before that. The earlier pieces used wooden handles as used in this piece so I'm dating this piece from the last quarter of the 19th century.
If you collect silver pots, this is a particularly beautiful form that I have not seen very often. I'm told this is a hot chocolate pot, not a teapot.
