De Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft)
7" Wall Plate
Black Delft, Signed GHA, 1978 Date Code
A lovely, elegantly designed wall plate with the mark for De Porceleyne Fles (The Porcelain Jar), also called Royal Delft. It shows hand-painted blue, red, yellow, and white flowers with a large colorful bird, all on a glossy black background, with flowers and bands around the rim. The style is called "Famille Noire," dating back 300 years and reintroduced at the company's 325th anniversary in 1978.
This delightful plate is 7-1/8 inches wide across the rim. It is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks. There is some very light crazing on the back side (see closeup photo of the plate's back rim). There is a wire hanger attached to the pierced holes on the foot ring.
This plate makes a gorgeous display. It has the expected Royal Delft logo and the word "Delft" on the back side. hot The year mark is CX, which is 1978. The decorator's initials are GHA, which I believe is G. van Hagen (according to online sources, employed 1970 to 1984). There is also a blue and silver foil label on the back for "De Porceleyne Fles." (There is also a bit of tape residue on the back side, which I didn't try very hard to remove because I didn't want to accidentally damage the blue and silver foil label.)
