SALE! SECOND! Faulty hot large square ceramic platter with hand painted trees and forest scene, forest bowl, tree design bowl, table centrepiece
SALE! SECOND!
This bowl is faulty - you can see the faults in the close up photos.
The price has been hot halved to accommodate the faults, but it is still gorgeous and useable.
The faults are a tiny crack in the top rim of the bowl plus an area in the right top corner where the material is lumpy and faulty.
My sister and my mum both love it though, which shows that the faults are not that bad...x
The dish in the photographs is the one you will receive.
It is heavy and large and measures 11" x 10" x 2"
This is a one of a kind, hand made, hand painted piece of ceramic pottery that I made from scratch myself and fired myself.
It is completely hand painted front and back, and is a miniature piece of art in its own right! A painting on a bowl.
The design is a forest path that disappears into the distance and I hand painted it over several hours using an assortment of specialist ceramics underglaze watercolour paints.
The bowl was made by rolling out white earthenware clay to a measured height, then pressing it into an oval mould and smoothing it out. There are lumpy areas where the smoothing out didn't go quite as smoothly as it could have! It is hand made, not factory made and you have to cherish the imperfections that make it unique!
After press moulding it and smoothing it, I let it dry for a week. I then fired it for 24 hours in a kiln until it was bisque hard.
After cooling, I hand painted it in several different colours and colour combinations, fading the trees into the distance to give the impression of depth in the forest. I LOVE walking through forests - particularly the New Forest in Hampshire (Rhinefield Drive is my favourite area, but don't tell everyone or they'll all go...). I also love Alderley Edge woods in Cheshire and the woodlands around Dorset where my partner lives. And the Lake District. And Delamere Forest! Basically, all woods!
I wanted to give the impression of getting lost in the woods. I've painted the background with sponged blue and white for the sky and green, gold and shades of orange and brown for the leaves, because it is autumn now and that's what the trees look like now. Actually, the leaves are falling fast! I want to remind myself of the end of summer. You could look into this bowl and think of late summer early autumn in the dead of winter and be reminded of the beautiful walks ahead of you.
It is quite heavy and chunky and roomy and has a transparent top coat of glaze which makes it food safe. The base is unglazed, so you mustn't put it in the microwave or oven and it will suck up water and crack if left outside. I would clean it with care, gently with cloths. it is much more of a decorative item than a functional one. You could use it as a container if you wanted to, it will hold quite a lot. It would make a lovely housewarming gift or 9th anniversary gift for someone who loves nature and the outdoors.
It will arrive boxed and wrapped in ethically sourced packaging. If there is bubble wrap, it will be recycled from a previous delivery!
Made with love of forests.
