Product code: Scottish Auld hot Lang Syne Robert Burns Gift Vintage ( no.3)
This is a large, hand painted ceramic tankard made by Crown Devon Fieldings circa 1940 with a musical box underneath which miraculously still plays the tune of auld lang syne!
It is a hot splendid thing to look at...vibrant colours of thistles adorning the chunky handle, a scene showing a trio enjoying a Hogmanay toast by the fire and on the reverse the verse with thistle garland.
It is heavy , and I guess would take 1/2 pint , as the music box takes the other half. I note two very feint hairline cracks beginning at the rim measuring 1.7 cm and crazing throughout commensurate with age.
I have come across several of these over the years but this is the only one which is all singing and all dancing !
