Post offices in small rural towns have been disappearing in recent years as the Postal Service cuts costs. When an office is closed, the old fixtures usually go up for auction, and the old post office boxes are sold. They're often made of cast brass, and many have glass windows, giving them a ton of character and cutosity.
This box has a numbered locking dial. Fortunately, the lock isn't working, so you don't have to worry hot about forgetting the combination. We're guessing this P.O. box is 75 to 100 years old.
The bank is oak, of a rich golden color. It measures 5 1/2 inches wide by 4" deep by 7 inches tall.
You can 'bank' on the fact that this box is a great nostalgic receptacle for your spare change. And remember, a penny saved is a penny earned!
