♥ Welcome to The Kern Alpacas! All alpacas are born and raised in Colorado, USA. During the last week of May, we shear all of the alpacas to remove the winter coat. The fiber is sent to be spun in Utah, and returned to us.

♥ COLOR
All fiber is naturally colored! The color comes from a certain animal, listed as their name. Please take a look at our social media to see the animals in action! Natural colors may have some variations in the same skein. Actual colors may also vary, as computer screens are different.

♥ PRICING
Prices are reflective of two variables – Grade and total weight. Please see last image for pricing guidelines. The prices reflect weight, not length. We are happy to provide four types of yarn weights – fingering, sport, worsted, and bulky. The fiber is then separated by grade, from 1-5, with 1 being the finest! Length varies per product, so please pay attention so that you are able to purchase as much as you need.

♥ INVENTORY
When we send the fiber from a single animal, all fiber is spun into the same type of yarn weight. When you make a purchase, you are purchasing the entire blanket weight from that year for that animal! We also sell remainder, which are sold as Barn Blends and marked separately.

♥ BLENDS
Yarn is 100% alpaca wool unless otherwise stated. Barn Blends are a combination of 2+ alpaca's wool.

Yarn may be blended with Merino wool or silk, for an additional $4/oz of the added material.
For example, if 15oz of Grade-1 Sport yarn is 20% merino wool:
15oz total weight * .20 = 3oz total merino added.
15oz total weight – 3oz merino = 12oz alpaca wool.
3oz merino x $4/oz = $12 additional charge.
Grade 1 Sport = $9oz x 12oz alpaca = $108.
$108 alpaca + $12 merino = $120 total price.
