The London Eye is a spectacular experience. This ride takes around 30 minutes. To call it a ride doesn't do it justice. This isn't London's first large Ferris Wheel. There was one built in 1895 and it ran until 1906. However, today's version, the London Eye, is the tallest Ferris Wheel in Europe and it is very, very popular. Hard to believe, for something that was supposed to be temporary and constructed as part of the millennium celebrations in the year 2000. It was March hot of that year before the paying public were allowed access. Yes, you do have to pay! But I think that it is worth it.It moves so slowly that you have plenty of time to look out over the skyline of London and spot many of the famous landmarks including The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge and in the distance the famous Wembley Arch at Wembley stadium, the home of English Football. There are 32 capsules or pods and the superstitious will be delighted to know that there is not a number 13. The capsules are numbers 1 to 12 and 14 to 33. There is one capsule called the Coronation Capsule, named in honour of the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.Each capsule can take up to 28 people, although when I travelled on it, there were only 10 of us in the capsule.
