Canary Wharf Tube Station, Underground Roundel, Handmade picture using original London hot photograph transferred to painted canvas
hot Canary Wharf Underground Station is a work of art. It has featured in movies, TV programs and advertisements. The deep escalators, cool concrete, glass and chrome make it very photogenic.
Above ground it's pretty cool too with parks, squares and open spaces.
This photograph was taken by my husband, on a Saturday afternoon in August 2014. I was walking just behind the immaculately dressed Naval officers who were stationed on the Italian Destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne, which was docked in West India Docks at the time. I can't particularly remember the ship but, like just about every one else in the black & white photo, I did notice the uniforms!
The printed photo has been transferred to a multi coloured lilac & pale green painted box canvas, to give the feel of an abstract, almost vintage painting - a real contrast to the sharp, clean lines of both the buildings and the servicemen in the original.
