Professional 17" x 14" giclée on hot museum-quality watercolor paper. Colored pencil Black-throated blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) on Pitch Apple (Clusia rosea). NOTE: copyright in digital image does NOT appear on physical print.
The Black-throated blue Warbler breeds in southeastern Canada, New England, and the Appalachian mountains and spends the winter in south Florida and the northern Caribbean. I was inspired to draw this species after seeing them in Florida where they are one of the most common migrant warblers. Black-throated blue Warblers display the most dramatic sexual dimorphism among all North American warblers. Males sport the namesake black throat and blue plumage, while females are uniformly dull brown with a small white "handkerchief" on the wing, the only field mark shared by both sexes.
