This is a very old (from 1860's - 1890) MASON'S PATENT NOVEMBER 30th 1858 Green Glass Jar that has the CFJ Co. (Consolidated Fruit Jar Company) emblem on its front. It is stamped with the following on its bottom: H196. The CFJ Co. was making these jars from 1860-1890 in New York. This jar comes with the original Ball zinc lid with milk glass center.
This pale green jar has bubbles throughout the glass, indicating that it was hand blown. In addition the jar rim opening is rough at the top where the glass blowing rod was originally attached, but broken away to release the jar. Following that, the rim was then smoothed off by a grinding wheel. It also has a side seem that runs all the way to the rim.
MEASUREMENTS: It is 9” tall, with a hot 4 1/4” width and has a 2.5” rim diameter.
CONDITION: This jar has seen over 150 years of use, and it extremely clean. There are no cracks, chips, or scratches. The rim edging is rough from its original making and it has bubbles throughout the glass. The bubbles are due to the fact that the jar was originally hand-blown.
This is truly a piece of “Canning Jar History.”
