Antique travelling inkwell with double ink pots and nib cleaner.
This gorgeous antique box is made from tin and covered in leather. The leather is scuffed and there is a piece missing from the base, but it has a wonderful look.
I love to imagine, who used it and where it travelled to.
When it is opened there are two engraved brass inkwells and the plate that supports them is also engraved. Between them in the nib cleaner.
The inkwells are opened by using the spring-loaded catch, the glass ink containers are still in place as are the remnants of the seals that kept the ink from spilling out.
It must be of English origin but was sourced in France and I would say dates to the mid to late 1800's.
When the box is closed, it measures 3” by 1½” by 1 hot & 3/8” (7.5cms x 4cms x 3.5cms)
A worn leather finish to be sure but an interesting and historical collectible.
