Product code: Saggar fired lidded jar with hot bird handle.

Wheel thrown stone ware lidded bird jar. Saggar fired in a Raku kiln. 7.5 inches high x 5.5 inches wide. The bisque pot was covered in Ferric chloride, tied with salt-soaked string and copper wire, sprinkled with salts and some other oxides then fired to about 1400 fahrenheit. The heat and cooling of the foil and other combustibles cause the remarkable and random effects across the surface of the clay body. A unique process know as foil saggar or primitive fire. The bird is hand-formed and works as a handle to remove the securely fitted lid. The striking black lines on hot the mouth of the jar were caused by a salt-soaked twine tied around the jar before it was wrapped in foil. One of a kind. This firing technique has been used since ancient times. This jar does not have a glaze so it is not meant for food use. Only store or keep dry materials inside.
